When considering starting your own money making home business you will need to decide if you are going to sell your own products or perhaps try something such as drop-shipping or affiliate marketing?

If you decide to sell your own products you could pay for advertising in your local area or even nationally, this can be very expensive though and is often beyond the resources of someone just wanting to try running a business from home.

Most households usually have a least one computer nowadays and even if they don’t the cost of getting one is fairly low, more and more people are using online methods for starting their home business so if you haven’t considered this yet then maybe now is the time?

Don’t be intimidated by the thought of using online advertising methods, there are plenty that are quite simple to do and very cost effective.

Take for example having your own website.

Years ago having your own website could be either very expensive getting someone to put it together for you, or you had to be a bit of a “techie” who new how to write code and build websites.

Over the last few years all that has changed though, and now just about anyone can put their own website up very easily.

If this is all completely new to you then please don’t just dismiss it without investigating a bit further?

You’ll be missing a huge opportunity if you don’t!

All you need to get your own website set up is some web hosting, a domain name and a way to put your website together.

Web hosting

This is just what you need to pay to get your website and it’s content “hosted” on the Internet, you can buy various packages and deals usually starting at about $5 month.

Domain name

This is what you choose for the name of your website such as www.yoursite.com, you need to register the name through a domain name service and it usually costs less than $10 year, some names can even be purchased for just a couple of dollars.

Site builder

Sometimes called site builders or web authoring software this part can all be a little intimidating when you first come across it. You’ll probably hear about “dreamweaver” which is used by many professionals and costs hundreds of dollars, but you really don’t need anything like that if you’re just getting started.

There are plenty of free site builders such as NVU and Wordpress.org. Wordpress has become extremely popular over the past few years, it’s free and used by both amateurs and professionals.

If you get the right type of hosting account and use wordpress you can literally get a website set up for $15-20.

You can install wordpress yourself in about 5 minutes, add a free theme to make your website look nice, then add a couple of articles for content and you have your first website up and running, then it’s time to get traffic to it and start to promote your products.

When you have your own website you could promote your own products, try affiliate marketing, or both?
